Rikitea Ridge Walk

23° 7.2′ S · 134° 58.3′ W · approximate

A 5.4-mile shaded ridge trail that runs along the spine behind Rikitea, with views down onto the anchorage, joining the Kirimiro 'Arc de Triomphe'.

Practical

approx: the pin is the start of the climb just behind St Michael (water tower), placed from walking directions. From the main dock turn left, then right on the street across from Air Tahiti (just before the church), and go uphill. At the water tower turn right and walk along the right side of the fence, right of the cell and water towers. The trail is fairly easy to follow but has two rope descents and three rope climbs. Grace of Longstone found it 'a little sketchy in a couple of places'. Very muddy and slippery with pine needles after rain. At the Arc de Triomphe de Kirimiro, descend to JoJo's or continue along the ridge down to the road. Ari B (2021) walked south along the ridge from the Taku/Kirimiro tops all the way to the pass on the main road.
