Rikitea Cooking Gas (propane and butane)
23° 7.2′ S · 134° 58.2′ W · approximate
French gas bottles are sold and exchanged through the Rikitea magasins and the supply ships. Nobody in the Gambier refills US-style tanks.
Practical
approx: placed in Rikitea village from the compendium's walking directions relative to the main dock and St Michael Cathedral (Wikipedia position); expect an error of up to about 300 m. Process (2022): leave your empty French bottle at a magasin (Sugar Shack prefers Leille), pay up front, and collect the full one the day after the supply ship leaves. Ships sometimes swap bottles directly, and the Nuku Hau sells propane. Supply was very tight in 2021, so bring a spare bottle or full tanks. To fill US tanks you need FP fittings and gravity-transfer gear. 2021 prices from a private refill service: 2.7 kg camping bottle 2,000 XPF, local 13 kg bottle 3,500 XPF (verify locally).
