The islanders have revived the traditional rahui: fishing is banned in rotating zones along the reef to let the overfished lagoon recover.

Coordinate is the Rairua mairie, where a chart of the closed zones is available; zones change every 3 years (Pitufa Dec 2020; Chugach 2020). Respect the closures. Ciguatera is widespread: only a few species are considered safe by the locals.
