Raitahiti Landing and Supply-Ship Buoy (Kaukura)

15° 40.4′ S · 146° 52.4′ W · approximate

Kaukura's freight lifeline: supply ships moor to a big orange buoy off the reef while a barge shuttles cargo to the village landing, which is unusable in heavy swell.

Practical

Positioned at the OpenStreetMap 'Hangar Maritime' in Raitahiti (approximate; the landing's exact location is not mapped). July 2024 atoll sheet: ocean-side landing at Raitahiti, 32 m of berthing with 1.80 m, damaged by swell from a depression and impracticable in strong swell; also a darse, a boat landing via Panau, a communal barge and 30 ft liaison boat, and a small marina near the mairie. Welcome Tahiti: the Cobia ties up to the big orange buoy at sea and the barge makes many trips with a crane. No source documents a yacht anchorage; do not use the ship's buoy.
