Kaukura Mairie and Landing Rules (Raitahiti)

15° 40.4′ S · 146° 52.4′ W

Kaukura's town hall in Raitahiti, the only official contact on an atoll with no documented yacht pass, no gendarmerie and no visitor services beyond a few shops.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap 'Mairie Kaukura' building, next to the post office. Kaukura is an associated commune of Arutua (delegate mayor Wandy Pukoki, 2024 sheet) and is NOT a port of entry. Landing caveats: the ocean-side landing at Raitahiti (32 m, 1.8 m) was damaged by swell and is impracticable in strong swell; supply ships stay outside on a big orange buoy and a barge ferries cargo (2024 sheet; Welcome Tahiti). No source gives a yacht anchorage, so any visit means standing off in settled weather or arriving by air (1 Saturday flight a week, 2024). Post office hours (2024): 7:30-9:30 am Monday, 7:30-11:30 am Tuesday-Thursday, 7:30-11 am Friday; phone 40 966 222. There is no ATM listed and no dive club or official guide (Welcome Tahiti). Drinking water from the prepaid fountain at the primary school, 10 XPF per litre.
