Kaukura Supply-Ship Day (Raitahiti)
15° 40.4′ S · 146° 52.4′ W · approximate
On the eve of the goélette, Raitahiti families gather at community tables to fillet and vacuum-pack fish for Tahiti and bag copra; next day the Cobia moors to an orange buoy and a barge shuttles cargo ashore.
Practical
Approximate: placed at the landing area in Raitahiti. Welcome Tahiti: fish is processed and sold at about 1,000 XPF per kilo of fillet (older article, verify locally), and in big swell unloading is 'a balancing act' with cargo sometimes lost overboard. 2024 sheet: Cobia 3 (about 46 calls a year), Mareva Nui (21) and SXMS 4 (22). The best day to find fresh fish and whatever the ship brought.
