The mairie (town hall) in Vaitepaua: the island's maire delegue, Julien Mai, is the person to contact about mooring availability, sea conditions at the landing and island tours.

Coordinate is the Mairie in OpenStreetMap. Contact Julien Mai by text in advance: +689 87 74 45 22 (Noonsite 2023; the compendium also lists +689 87 75 77 35 and Julien.mai@mail.pf, 2019). He may hold a mooring for you, but other boats don't always call ahead. Makatea is not a port of entry: clear in at Papeete, Rangiroa or another official port first. The commune and government have said more moorings are planned (verify locally).
