Hooumi Beach (Controleur Bay)

8° 53.4′ S · 140° 1.7′ W

The village beach at the head of Hooumi, the eastern lobe of Controleur Bay, a favourite weekend barbecue spot for Nuku Hivans and the landing for the walk up the valley.

Practical

Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap beach polygon centre at Hooumi. Land in the centre of the beach in line with the large covered shed: there are submerged rocks to the left (compendium). Potable spring-water taps behind the pavilion and just up from the beach (2021-2023, compendium); the brief (2023) mentions a water source and a voluntary waste drop-off but asks you to take rubbish back to Taiohae. Recycling bins (2019, Noonsite comment). No store: Taipivai's shops are a walk away. Seed-jewellery artisans work in the village.
