Hooumi Bay (Controleur Bay)

8° 53.5′ S · 140° 1.6′ W

The easternmost lobe of Controleur Bay, a flat, sheltered anchorage off a tiny village beach where locals barbecue on weekends; free spring water ashore.

Practical

Jacaranda (Oct 2015) at 08°53.53'S / 140°01.58'W in 13 ft at low water, mostly sand and mud with scattered rocks; boats can point north or south even in ESE wind. Moon Rebel (2018) found it very flat through rough days with seas from well south of east, more comfortable than Hanamoenoa, good for a mast climb. Dinghy landing: submerged rocks left of the beach; land in the centre in line with the large covered shed. Potable spring-water taps behind the pavilion and just up from the beach (2021-2023). Recycling bins at the beach (2019). No store; Taipivai's magasins are a walk away. Church and a sculptor in the village (2017).
