Hitianau to Airport Road Walk (Katiu)

A flat 7 km walk or bike ride west along the north rim from the village to the airstrip, between coconut groves with the ocean reef on one side and the lagoon on the other.

Approximate: midpoint between the village and Katiu Airport (16.3394S / 144.4031W, French Wikipedia). The commune (2024) describes 7 km of partly concreted road from the airfield to the village, with about 1 km still unpaved; True Blue (2013) called it a rough track. Carry water and sun protection: there is no shade on the open stretches and no shops outside the village. Respect private coconut plantations and copra drying racks. The weekly Thursday flight is a good reason to walk out and watch the plane come in.
