Heiva i Nuku Hiva and 14 July Festivities (Taiohae)

8° 54.7′ S · 140° 6.2′ W · approximate

Taiohae's July celebrations bring a 14 July parade and the Heiva, with Marquesan dance, song and traditional sports on the waterfront ceremonial grounds.

Practical

Position approx: plotted at the OpenStreetMap Paepae Piki Vehine node beside Tohua Temehea, the waterfront ceremonial ground built for festivals. A travel-guide calendar (aeroports-voyages.fr) lists the 14 July parade in July 2026 and describes the Heiva in Taiohae in July with dances, songs and traditional sports, but its agenda also dates a Heiva i Nuku Hiva to December 2026, so confirm dates with the Tourism Committee (tel 40 92 08 25, VHF 72). Rehearsals in the evenings beforehand are worth watching. July is southern winter: S swell can make Taiohae rolly, so use a stern anchor. Bring cash for food stalls.
