The Gendarmerie Nationale in Hakahau makes Ua Pou one of three ports of entry in the Marquesas, with Taiohae and Atuona. It handles customs and immigration formalities for yachts.

Coordinate approximate: placed near the mairie and post office (OpenStreetMap) per Sugar Shack's directions, 'main street, 2nd left, past post office, on left'. Hours (Noonsite, June 2024): Monday to Friday 7:30am-12pm and 2-5:30pm. File the online 'déclaration unique' for pleasure yachts before arrival. Visiting Papeete for clearance is no longer compulsory. Fruit and vegetables from other islands may not be landed, because Ua Pou is free of fruit fly. Clear out of French Polynesia at the last island's gendarmerie.
