Fakatopatere Ocean Landing (Takapoto)

14° 42.4′ S · 145° 15.2′ W

The small ocean-side landing stage behind a breakwater at Fakatopatere, the only way supply ships and visiting boats reach Takapoto's village since the atoll has no pass.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap 'Débarcadère' point, on the ocean (west) side of the village with a breakwater beside it. July 2024 atoll sheet: Fakatopatere landing has 25 m of berthing with 2.10 m; a second ocean-side landing at Okukina, used in heavy swell, is damaged. Supply ships (Mareva Nui, SXMS 4, Taporo 9) work cargo here about 50 times a year. NO SOURCE DOCUMENTS A YACHT ANCHORAGE: our sources give no depth or holding off this pass-less atoll. Treat a visit as a calm-weather dinghy landing from a boat standing off (keep someone aboard), only in settled E-NE trades with no SW swell, and never at night.

Best for

Landing at a pass-less atoll in calm weather

Season

Only in settled trades with no W-SW swell
