Fakarava Pink Sands (Les Sables Roses, South Pass)
16° 31.5′ S · 145° 28.2′ W
Banks of crushed-coral pink sand on the motus west of the south pass, glowing against water so clear it looks shallower than it is. It is the most photographed spot on Fakarava, and strictly protected.
Practical
Anchoring is totally prohibited in the area (2025 brief), and it lies in the south-west no-anchoring (NP) zone. Visit by dinghy from the Tetamanu moorings, or by shuttle: Tetamanu Village and the dive centres run picnic trips. This is a strictly protected area of the Environment Department: no trash, no camping, no fires. In 2018 a cruiser noted that tour boats resent yachts' dinghies crowding it.
