Atuona Black Sand Beach

9° 48.3′ S · 139° 2.3′ W · approximate

The broad black-sand beach of Atuona Bay below the village. It is good for a scenic walk and is the local surf and bodyboard break when swell runs.

Practical

Approximate position: head of Atuona Bay, west of the Tahauku harbour (derived from the OpenStreetMap coastline). The 2026 brief lists it as perfect for a scenic walk, surfing and bodyboarding. Not a swimming beach in swell, and nonos bite. In calm weather dinghies may land here (watch the tide).
