Ahe Airport Anchorage
14° 26.9′ S · 146° 13.3′ W
An anchorage off the airport in Ahe's NE corner, close to Pension Raita and Motu Manu, but with pinnacle bommies and murky water.
Practical
Position 14°26.927'S 146°13.319'W; Jacaranda floated the chain on 4 floats and luckily came up unwrapped a week later (2016). Water less clear than other atolls: they could not see bottom in 30 ft and searched 30 minutes with a fish finder for sand. Watch for both bommies and pearl floats. Approach only via the marked channel from the pass to the airport; locals insist you should not cut along the south side of the lagoon. Anchoring near the airport 'may be OK if the wind is suitable' (2017). Sea-seek notes the NE motus are exposed to E winds.
