Ston Harbour

42° 50.0′ N · 17° 41.9′ E · approximate

The small harbour at the head of the Stonski kanal, right below the salt pans and the town walls. Shallow but very well sheltered, and a short walk to everything in Ston.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate, in the harbour by the OSM piers. Reached only from the south, through the dredged and marked channel from Broce (see the Stonski kanal passage); it is not connected by water to Mali Ston. Depths about 2–3 m at the quay and less in places; reports say parts have silted, so go slowly at low water. Lie alongside the west-shore pier or anchor in the middle, clear of the western berths. Services are patchy: water and power reported in some years but not others; a 2019 report gave about 300–400 kuna (roughly €40–53) a night for a 10 m boat. Sea level can change by up to 0.5 m in strong S winds. Mosquitoes after dark in summer. Shops, two small supermarkets and restaurants in town.

Best for

A night under the walls with oysters ashore

Season

May–Oct; shoal-draft boats best
