Mali Ston Harbour
42° 50.8′ N · 17° 42.2′ E · approximate
The little harbour of Mali Ston at the far south-east end of Mali Ston Bay, under the Koruna tower, famous for its oysters. It is reached only from the north, by the long Malostonski channel.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate, in the harbour by the OSM piers. Shallow: under 2 m in the harbour and under 1 m in parts, so only boats drawing up to about 2 m should come in. Moor in front of the fortress or on the inside of the pier; the west quay is used by local boats and restaurant boats in season, so space is unlikely. Deeper boats anchor just north of the harbour in about 4 m on mud, well sheltered, but the bura can blow hard here. Strong S winds can push the sea level up by as much as 2 m and set up currents in the narrows. The approach channel has at least 3 m and is marked; watch the marked Vranjak and Školjić shoals and keep close to the Ostri peninsula. Water in Ston; small supermarket in Ston, about 1.5 nm away by road. Restaurants on the quay.
