Wichubhuala & Nalunega Villages

9° 33.4′ N · 78° 56.7′ W · approximate

Densely built Guna island villages a short dinghy ride from Porvenir; Wichubhuala's houses practically spill into the sea, and both islands have the nearest small shops, bakeries and fresh produce for boats anchored in the western group.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: placed just east of Gaigirgordub (Wikipedia 9.5586, -78.9484), which Moxon describes as 'just next door'; Nalunega lies close by in the same cluster. Check the chart before landing. Wichubhuala has a main grocery store by the big concrete dock, a bakery (bread not ready until after 2 pm on the day reported), and a liquor store opposite the grocery (SY Balvenie 2012, poor selection). Cruisers have bought fruit and vegetables at Nalunega (Spirit of Argo 2016). Nalunega hosted the comarca's first Mola Festival ('Yala Burba Mola Riba'), August 16–22, with mola-making, dance and canoe contests (Ministry of Culture). Ask before photographing people; small per-photo fees are customary. Dinghy landing at village docks; lock the dinghy.
