Westpunt Baai & Playa Piskado - Not a Designated Anchorage (Curaçao)

12° 22.1′ N · 69° 9.3′ W · approximate

Westpunt's little bay with the turtle beach at Playa Piskado and the cliff-jumping at Playa Forti looks like a perfect lunch stop, but the Harbour Master does not allow yachts to anchor there.

Practical

Curaçao Ports Authority (via Noonsite, 13 August 2025): yachts may anchor only in six designated areas, each needing a Harbour Master anchor permit - Spanish Water (max 90 days) and Fuik Baai, Santa Martha, Santa Cruz, Piscadera Baai and Klein Curaçao (max 3 nights each). 'Westpunt Bai North and South are NOT recognized anchoring areas', and no permits are issued for them. The Coast Guard patrols and may check clearance and anchor permit (Virgintino). So the legal way to swim with the Playa Piskado turtles is by road (about 45-60 minutes from Spanish Water) or as a sail-by; Santa Cruz, the nearest designated anchorage, is about 4 nm south. Strong, unpredictable currents can run off Westpunt. Coordinate approx: in the bay about 100 m off the OSM shoreline in front of Playa Piskado.

Best for

Knowing that Westpunt is a drive, not an anchorage
