Spotts Bay Anchorage (northwester refuge)
19° 16.2′ N · 81° 19.2′ W
The south-coast lee where Port Security sends yachts and cruise ships when a northwester makes George Town untenable.
Practical
Position is DoE 'Yacht 2S', one of five visiting-yacht moorings at Spotts in the DoE 2023 GPX (19.26907-19.27073N, 081.31367-081.32307W). Virgintino's reference is 19 16.1N, 081 19.2W just south of the bay. Clearance can be done here in bad weather. When cruise ships use the Spotts dock it is a security zone: dinghies may not land there - use the small beach or call Port Security for a pickup. Otherwise little reason to stop.
Best for
Shelter from Dec-Mar northwesters
Season
Use in N-NW fronts, Dec-Apr
