Sloth Spotting (Isla San Cristóbal & the mangroves)

9° 15.5′ N · 82° 16.1′ W

Three-toed sloths hang in the trees all over the archipelago — Isla San Cristóbal's farms and mangrove 'sloth islands' and the Red Frog resort trails are the classic places to find them.

Practical

Position is the GeoNames Isla Cristóbal point. Wild three-toed sloths can be seen anywhere with luck; tours visit 'sloth islands' — boat-only drive-bys rarely produce sightings, tours that land are better (Wikivoyage). Cruisers found the Red Frog resort grounds on Bastimentos the best sloth spotting in Central America, including a mother and baby seen repeatedly (melonthego). San Cristóbal is a largely deforested 37 km² island home to Ngäbe people and a few expats (Wikipedia). Don't touch or feed wildlife.
