Montego Bay Marine Park

18° 28.8′ N · 77° 55.8′ W · approximate

Jamaica's first declared marine protected area, nearly 16 sq km of reef, seagrass and mangrove across Montego Bay's waterfront, with two fish sanctuaries at Bogue Lagoon and Airport Point.

Practical

Coordinate approximate, placed offshore of the Hip Strip/Doctor's Cave reefs. The Montego Bay Marine Park Trust manages the park and its sanctuaries under a zoning plan with NEPA. The Bogue Lagoon sanctuary dates from 1979 and the Airport Point sanctuary from 2009; no fishing in either. The Trust runs glass-bottom and birding tours to 'Bird Island'. A 2015 cruiser reports the park office at Pier 1 helped call Customs and Immigration (small donation).
