Mercado de Bazurto (Cartagena City Market)

10° 24.8′ N · 75° 31.5′ W

Cartagena's sprawling, chaotic public market - fish, fruit, vegetables and almost anything else at the lowest prices in town, and a real slice of Caribbean Colombian street life.

Practical

OSM position (Barrio Chino, by Av. Pedro de Heredia). The Cruiser's Guide calls it 'as humble as it gets - for the adventurous'; good used 5-gallon water jugs about USD 3.50 (verify locally). More fruit and vegetable stalls line Avenida del Lago toward the Bazurto bridge. Go in the morning, keep valuables hidden and take a taxi back with your load. Early-morning water taxis also leave from Bazurto for Bocachica and Barú (national guide).

Best for

Cheap fresh produce and fish
