Long Caye Anchorage (Lighthouse Reef)

17° 12.4′ N · 87° 36.1′ W · approximate

The protected lee of Long Caye, on the west side of Lighthouse Reef, is the usual anchorage for yachts visiting the Blue Hole by tender, with the Aquarium dive site and small dive lodges on the caye.

Practical

Position approximate: placed off the west side of Long Caye using its OpenStreetMap outline; Long Caye is about 2.25 miles long and up to 0.75 mile wide with a small dock (VYA). Boat International names Long Caye as the start point and anchorage for the Blue Hole. Expedition ships have anchored in the protected leeside of Long Caye when they could not use Half Moon. Do NOT anchor on the Aquarium dive site: in February 2020 a foreign yacht's anchor damaged the reef there; Belize Audubon says the Aquarium has mooring pins and large vessels anchor further south near the mooring pins and designated anchoring locations (Channel 5). Hat Caye to the south is accessible only to boats drawing 4 ft or less (VYA).
