Cayo de Agua (Isla Cayo Agua)

9° 9.0′ N · 82° 2.1′ W

The low, remote island at the far south-east of the archipelago, between Isla Popa and the Valiente Peninsula, where the Bocas islands close off Chiriquí Lagoon from the open sea.

Practical

Position is the GeoNames island point (also called Water Cay); the village of Cayo de Agua (population about 529) is at 9.1525, -82.0580 (GeoNames). One of the six main islands and part of the Bocas del Toro Important Bird Area (Wikipedia). With Isla Popa it divides Almirante Bay from Chiriquí Lagoon (Spanish Wikipedia). Our sources give no anchorage or beach details — treat as exploratory; the main ship entrance to the lagoon, Canal del Tigre, is to the east.
