Spanish Wells Town (St. George's Cay)

25° 32.7′ N · 76° 45.7′ W

A tidy, colourful fishing town of about 1,600 people on St. George's Cay, half a kilometre off Eleuthera's northern tip, and the home port of one of the biggest spiny-lobster fleets in the Bahamas. Cruisers come for the most complete working-boat services in the northern Out Islands: a boatyard, chandleries, a real supermarket and a sheltered harbour.

Practical

The harbour is a long channel between St. George's Cay and Russell Island, sheltered but open to wind funnelling from the east, and too narrow to anchor in; use the Yacht Haven, the moorings at the east end, or anchor outside (Russell Island south shore, Meeks Patch, Charles Island, Gun Point). Customs and Immigration office is beside Ronald's Service Centre near the public dock. Getting around is by golf cart, bicycle or on foot; the 2025 Yacht Haven cart rate was $50/day or $250/week. Ferry and water taxis run from the government dock to Gene's Bay on Eleuthera for North Eleuthera Airport and the Harbour Island ferry. Dry island culture: marinas.com notes there is no liquor store on the island, so stock up in Harbour Island or Nassau.
