South Bight Anchorage

24° 12.0′ N · 77° 37.5′ W

An anchorage in the mouth of South Bight between Mangrove Cay and South Andros, surrounded by blue holes, with Lisbon Creek and Driggs Hill an easy dinghy ride away.

Practical

Position from ActiveCaptain. Good holding, but you lie to the tide rather than the wind; rolly when north wind fights the current, and exposed to northern swell in strong winds (noforeignland, rated 3.0). Good in settled weather or when no strong northerlies are forecast. Fewer flies than Middle Bight (ActiveCaptain 2013), though horse flies are still reported. Blue holes full of fish and lobster, with less visibility than Middle Bight. Land the dinghy at Lisbon Creek government dock, the Rusty Barge bar, or the Driggs Hill government basin. Food, fuel and propane in Driggs Hill. BTC 3G.

Best for

Blue holes and access to both Mangrove Cay and South Andros
