Runway 10 (San Salvador)

24° 3.8′ N · 74° 32.8′ W · approximate

A wall directly off the airport's runway approach, three minutes from the marina: coral heads at 40-60 ft, elephant-ear sponges, a ledge at 200 ft, and a favourite night dive.

Practical

Position is approximate: placed about 800 m off the west end of the airport, as the site is 'directly offshore of the Runway 10 approach' (Sail Abacos). San Salvador's wall sites carry dive-operator moorings - Noonsite says to use one of the 50-plus mooring buoys rather than anchor when diving on your own. Most sites are on the lee (west and south) side, 10-20 minutes by boat from Riding Rock Marina, with the reef starting around 40 ft (Riding Rock). Remote island: dive conservatively. Hammerheads occasionally cruise above the deep ledge in winter (Riding Rock).

Best for

Day or night dives close to the marina
