Rock Sound South Anchorage

24° 49.4′ N · 76° 11.2′ W

The empty southern end of Rock Sound, a place to have the water to yourself and snorkel the charted blue holes, if you can find sand to anchor in.

Practical

Position from the ActiveCaptain 'South Rock Sound' marker. The bottom is mostly thin silt over scoured rock: several boats in 2009 to 2018 could not set at all; others held after several tries with lots of rode in settled weather. Look for the white sand patches and avoid the brown bottom. Good protection from the east and south; poor in strong southerlies. A small blue hole nearby is fun to snorkel. Bugs swarm at night. For southerlies, Poison Point (South Side) has better holding.

Best for

Solitude and blue-hole snorkelling in settled weather
