Poison Point Anchorage (Rock Sound South Side)
24° 49.4′ N · 76° 12.2′ W
A clear-water anchorage off the south-west shore of Rock Sound near Poison Point, the best spot in the sound in southerly winds.
Practical
Position from the ActiveCaptain 'South Side' marker. Easy, open approach from the north. Good holding in sand close to shore: 11 ft at high and 7.5 ft at low about 150 ft off (2017); the sand is clay-like, so dig the anchor in hard. Better protection from southerlies and better holding than South Rock Sound to the east; move up into the sound when the wind goes west. Charted blue holes nearby. The Poison Point light (Fl 15s) was reported broken and unlit in 2017. No services: Rock Sound is 3 miles north-east.
Best for
Southerly winds inside Rock Sound
