Joe Sound Beach Anchorage

24° 12.5′ N · 75° 24.6′ W

A peaceful, empty beach anchorage on the south side of the Bight with a panoramic view back to New Bight, Old Bight and the hills. It is a good hop when the wind goes south-east to south.

Practical

Open approach in 8-12 ft over sand with ridges a foot or more high. Rocks and coral increase in 5-6 ft near the beach, so stay out in about 8-9 ft MLW in clean sand. Very calm in ESE through S up to 15 kt for several days, with good holding close to the beach (2022). Nothing ashore except a long beach and driftwood for a fire. The water is clear enough to run a watermaker.

Best for

A quiet night in south-east to south winds

Season

ESE–S winds
