Governor's Harbour Anchorage

25° 11.8′ N · 76° 15.0′ W

A wide, pastel-painted harbour under the hill of Eleuthera's administrative capital, protected by Cupid's Cay to the west, where the Eleutherian Adventurers' story begins and the Friday fish fry is a short dinghy ride away.

Practical

Position from the ActiveCaptain 'Governor's Harbor' marker. Holding is the challenge: guides and charts call it poor, with grass and hard patches. Favour the south side and south-east corner, where a 2019 report had room for about ten boats with no problems; further north is hard and poor. Waterway Guide advises a band of sand roughly 200 to 400 yd offshore; closer in is shallow and fouled with debris. Reports of success: 10 ft at low tide on the light sand just past the darker water (2016); 12 to 14 ft near the government dock in settled weather (2018); one boat used all its chain in about 16 ft in the south-east corner. Protection from north-east through east to south-east; exposed to the west, and a north-north-west swell has run right up to the beach. The two visible moorings belong to French Leave. Land on the beach by the isthmus to Cupid's Cay (a 2016 cruiser said the old dinghy dock was gone) or at the stairs near the pink government building at mid to high tide; trash bins are by the stairs. Water was sold at the Shell station and at the resort (35 cents a gallon, 2017, verify locally).
