Glass Window Bridge

25° 26.3′ N · 76° 36.3′ W

The roughly 30-ft-wide neck of Eleuthera where a road bridge separates the deep-blue Atlantic, 80 ft below its cliffs, from the calm green Bight of Eleuthera — once a natural stone arch painted by Winslow Homer, it is the island's signature view.

Practical

Best reached from the Gaulding Cay/Twin Sisters anchorage: land on the beach and walk the road (watch traffic), or anchor directly off the Glass Window in calm weather (Waterway Guide: 7-9 ft, deep sand, open in all directions). Danger: Atlantic 'rages' generated by distant storms can sweep over the bridge and cliffs without warning even on sunny days; a 1991 Halloween rage pushed the bridge 11 ft west and people and vehicles have been carried away. Stay back from the ocean-side edge. A $30 million replacement bridge 60 ft west of the existing one was announced in 2021.
