Fernandez Bay Anchorage (Cat Island)
24° 19.0′ N · 75° 28.4′ W
A small crescent of white sand split by a rocky islet into north and south pockets, fronted by the cruiser-friendly Fernandez Bay Village resort. It has good holding, good snorkelling and a mangrove creek that winds through to New Bight.
Practical
Watch for the coral head shown on the Explorer Charts in the entrance; approach from the north with a couple of heads to avoid. Anchor north or south of the rocks in the middle of the bay in about 6-8 ft of sand with good holding. The south pocket avoids swell wrapping around the point. There is room for about 3-4 boats inside and more outside in NE through SE winds. Good protection from N and E, but it rolls in sustained N-NE 15-20 kt and is open to the west. Good BTC and Aliv signal. The government dock just north is an easy dinghy ride to the grocery (2021). The resort has been known to drive cruisers to New Bight for supplies.
