East Reef and Booby Cay reefs (Mayaguana)
22° 18.6′ N · 72° 42.3′ W · approximate
The barrier reef off Mayaguana's far east end around Booby Cay - remote, unfished-looking coral on the edge of deep Atlantic water, for divers with their own gear.
Practical
Coordinate is the GeoNames point for East Reef (a charted reef, not a buoyed dive site). Bahamas.com describes Mayaguana's offshore reefs at 45-60 ft with walls, drop-offs and a cave system; Wikipedia notes many offshore reefs and wrecks. No dive operator and no chamber on the island; leave someone in the dinghy. Booby Cay itself is a brown booby and endemic iguana site - do not land among nesting birds.
