Driggs Hill Government Basin

24° 12.6′ N · 77° 36.0′ W

A deep, man-made concrete basin at Driggs Hill on South Andros, built for coastal freighters and mail boats, with Customs at the fisheries office and a village of small shops and bars.

Practical

Position from ActiveCaptain. Well-marked deep channel from outside the reef (from South Bight you must go back out and come in from the sea). 20+ ft in the centre and at least 15 ft along the walls. Rough concrete walls with sharp corners: chafe-protect lines or they part within hours. There is always some surge, and freighters and mail boats come at all hours (cargo ships dock diagonally against the SW ramp at least twice a week and have rocked boats hard into the wall), so use it overnight or for clearing only. Cash only, exact change: the dock master keeps any excess (fee unstated; one 2019 boat paid nothing). Restrooms at the small store by the abandoned fuel dock or the Rusty Barge. Trash barrels on the dock. Good BTC LTE.

Best for

Clearing in or a one-night stop on South Andros
