Cockburn Town Anchorage (San Salvador)
24° 3.1′ N · 74° 32.3′ W
The open roadstead off San Salvador's main town: deep white sand a short dinghy ride from the village, the airport and Customs, with the famous west-coast walls a few hundred metres offshore.
Practical
Noonsite position 24 deg 03.15'N, 74 deg 32.31'W, off the broken-down jetty. Holding is excellent in sand (noforeignland rates it 4.0: calm, easy navigation, excellent holding) but Noonsite warns there is normally quite a swell. It is a lee anchorage only - open to the west, so move (or head for Riding Rock Marina) before fronts. Clearance: anchor here with the Q flag and go to Customs and Immigration at the airport, about 2 miles north of town (Noonsite, 2013). Two small grocery stores and an airport with daily flights (Cruising World, 2023). Dinghy to the beach or the government basin; do not anchor on the dive moorings or coral.
Best for
Clearing in or out and visiting Columbus's island
Season
E-NE trades; untenable in W winds
