Anchorage· St. George's Cay (Spanish Wells)· Bahamas — Eleuthera, Andros & the Out Islands
Charles Island Anchorage
25° 32.3′ N · 76° 44.4′ W
An open anchorage east of the Spanish Wells harbour entrance, the usual jumping-off spot for the Devil's Backbone with a clear view of the ferry route.
Practical
7-10 ft, good holding in clear sand; avoid grass. Exposed from all directions but calm in winds under about 15 kn thanks to surrounding shoals and land. Waterway Guide tip: pull anchor as the Spanish Wells-Eleuthera ferry crosses, which gives about 15 minutes before it returns — the ferries do not slow or deviate. Shore access is difficult; go ashore in town.
Best for
Staging an early start through the Devil's Backbone
Season
Settled weather, winds under 15 kn
