Betsy Bay Anchorage (Mayaguana)

22° 23.8′ N · 73° 8.8′ W

A wide sandy bight on Mayaguana's west coast off the little settlement of Betsy Bay, a straightforward lee anchorage in easterly trades.

Practical

ActiveCaptain: approach due east toward the beach south of the settlement; drop in sand, as there are patches of rocky bottom and big rocks - one crew (Apr 2021) wrapped the chain on a rock overnight and needed a diver, so find clean sand before you drop. Rolly in moderate east winds; beach landing only, weak cell signal. Untenable in anything west of north or south. Betsy Bay settlement (about 44 people) holds an annual homecoming festival.

Best for

West-coast lee stop in steady easterlies
