Pirate's Well settlement services (Mayaguana)
22° 25.8′ N · 73° 5.7′ W · approximate
Mayaguana's north-shore settlement (about 90 people in 2010), with the Baycaner resort, two small restaurants, a bar, bonefishing guides and basket-weavers - and the road to Blackwood Point's flamingos.
Practical
Coordinate is the GeoNames point for Pirate's Well. Services are minimal: food at Mel's On Da Bay, TNT and the Baycaner restaurant; drinks at Angel's; car rental via the Baycaner (Wikivoyage, 2019). Local bonefishing guide Vincent 'Scully' Cartwright and straw-work artisan Louise McPhee are listed by the Ministry of Tourism. Blackwood Point flamingos are best reached by boat (Ministry of Tourism). There is no bank, fuel dock or customs here: diesel and gasoline come by delivery from Abraham's Bay (Waterway Guide, Dec 2025). Hitching or hired rides between settlements cost roughly $20-40 a day per Wikivoyage (2009 - verify locally).
