Attwood Harbour Anchorage (Acklins)

22° 43.3′ N · 73° 53.0′ W

A large, nearly enclosed semicircular bay at the north-east tip of Acklins, with turquoise water over clean sand, a mangrove fringe where turtles and rays feed, and a reef across the mouth; the best anchorage on Acklins and the usual stop between Long Island or Crooked Island and the Plana Cays, Mayaguana or the Turks and Caicos.

Practical

noforeignland position N 22°43.256' W 073°52.952': very good sand in 2-4 m with plenty of room, well protected from the prevailing east wind (rated 4.8 by 13 reviewers); some surge with certain wind directions. Noonsite: a semicircular inlet open to the north, so care is needed on the approach and it is no place to be in a northerly or a strong cold-front swell. A sport-fishing captain describes depths over 8 ft through most of the harbour. Chesters settlement is about 2 nm away on foot. A March 2026 noforeignland update lists local residents who arrange car rental, fuel and groceries delivered by boat, rides and fishing guiding, and a small food store nearby; ask on arrival. Cell data patchy.
