White Sound (Green Turtle) Moorings

26° 46.8′ N · 77° 20.2′ W · approximate

The well-protected northern sound of Green Turtle Cay, ringed by the Green Turtle Club and Bluff House, where most visiting cruisers pick up a mooring and dinghy to the beaches and the club pub.

Practical

Approximate position in the sound from the Waterway Guide White Sound listing (about N 26° 46.8' W 077° 20.2'). Entrance is the marked channel carrying about 7 ft MLW after recent dredging (marinas.com cautions 4-6 ft — time a deep draft for half tide or better). Moorings are rented locally: Brendal's Dive Center rents mooring buoys, and noforeignland reviewers report about $25-30 a night — verify locally and inspect the pennant. Anchoring is a distant third choice: room for only one or two boats just S and E of the Green Turtle Club docks, silty bottom over clay, and the anchor must dig through to the clay. Dinghy landing at the marinas. Very good all-round shelter, the place to be for a cold front.
