Strangers Cay Anchorage

27° 7.6′ N · 78° 6.3′ W

An uninhabited cay on the route between Grand Cay and Carters, a fair-weather nature anchorage with fish and conch on the north side. Few cruisers stop here.

Practical

ActiveCaptain position (near Boar's Hog Point). Grass bottom, which a Rocna set in without trouble (2019); good holding reported in 2014. Protected from easterlies but open to most other directions, and some swell wraps around the point. Follow the channel almost to the tip of the cay, avoiding the sandbank to port and two marked shoals. The current runs fast at mid-tide, so be careful swimming. The shore is mostly sharp rock with a little beach at high tide (sturdy shoes); biting flies and bugs near shore in calm weather. Pre-Dorian reports.
