Sea Turtle Haven (Frazers Hog Cay mangroves)

25° 24.5′ N · 77° 51.3′ W · approximate

A mangrove creek system at the south end of the Berries where young green turtles are so plentiful that visitors stop counting; also run as Chub Cay's Turtle Creek paddleboard tour through knee-deep clear water with stingrays and small fish.

Practical

Position approximate: the mangrove estuary behind the ActiveCaptain Texaco Cove anchorage (25.4060, -77.8561), where a 2019 reviewer 'quit counting all the young turtles'; Noforeignland lists this area as Sea Turtle Haven, a dinghy trip to see resident turtles. Go near high tide to get further in. Approach by dinghy from the Frazers Hog Cay, Texaco Cove or Chub Cay anchorages. Chub Cay Divers runs a guided paddleboard trip (about 2 hours, $140 per person, 2-person minimum, prices plus VAT); the paddle in is against the current. Do not touch or chase turtles.
