North Lynyard Cay Anchorage

26° 22.3′ N · 76° 58.9′ W

The quieter northern anchorage on Lynyard, in front of the big house on the hill, closest to the Sandy Cay reef and well away from the Pete's Pub traffic.

Practical

5-12 ft over sand and some grass; room for about a dozen boats. Protected roughly 350-160 deg (N to SE); calm with no current or surge in E winds even when the southern anchorage rolls. Approach from the south on the marked route, passing below the shallow reef lying N and E of the anchorage, and work in - it shoals gradually toward the beach and a sand bar extends off the entrance. 6 ft draft has tucked into the deeper patch at the north end in front of the small beach west of the last house. Tour boats with snorkelers pass nearby. Good spot to stage a dawn exit through North Bar Channel. ActiveCaptain community reports date from 2011-2019, before Hurricane Dorian (Category 5, Sept 1, 2019) hit Abaco; re-check bottom, markers and businesses locally.
