James Bond Wrecks (Vulcan bomber and Tears of Allah)
24° 59.8′ N · 77° 32.9′ W · approximate
Two movie sets a short swim apart on white sand off south-west New Providence: the steel frame of the Vulcan bomber mock-up built for Thunderball (1965), now draped in gorgonians and sponges, and the tug Tears of Allah, sunk for Never Say Never Again (1983).
Practical
Coordinate approximate: placed off the south-west coast west of Clifton Pier, where HuntingBond places both wrecks; not a dive mooring fix. Stuart Cove's lists both at about 40 ft; Scuba Diver Life gives 45 ft at the deepest point of the Tears of Allah, a 92 ft former supply tug (bahamas.com calls it a 110 ft freighter). The Vulcan's fibreglass panels have gone, leaving a metal framework carrying fire coral (it stings: no gloves-off grabbing). Fine white sand silts easily, so keep buoyancy tight. Significant current is rare; visibility 50-130 ft; water averages about 80°F. Stuart Cove's runs them together as 'the James Bond wrecks', usually as the second dive of a two-tank trip. Turtles, lobster and moray eels shelter in the frame.
