Hope Town Harbour Moorings

26° 32.2′ N · 76° 57.7′ W

A storybook harbour of pastel cottages trimmed with white latticework, ringed by moorings and watched over by the candy-striped Elbow Reef Lighthouse. Boats lie to moorings in a nearly landlocked basin, and the whole village is a dinghy ride away.

Practical

Coordinate is a charted mooring buoy in the main field (OpenStreetMap seamarks). No anchoring: the harbour is full of moorings. Depths average 5-6 ft, and the entrance bar is shallow (see the Hope Town Harbour Entrance passage), so enter on a mid to high tide. Several operators rent balls: Hope Town Inn & Marina, Abaco Bahama Charters and Lighthouse Marina all answer VHF 16 (Noonsite); double green floats belong to Lucky Strike (Waterway Guide). If you are unsure who owns a ball, the owner usually comes by to collect in the evening. Prices: about $30/night in a 2023 review with discounts for longer stays; Hope Town Inn & Marina has quoted $20/day and $100/week; The Moorings says $20-30 (verify locally). Land the dinghy at the Lower Public Dock or the Post Office Dock; there is a garbage drop-off for cruisers by the Harbour Lodge ferry dock. Busy and tight in season, but noforeignland reviewers rate the protection excellent.
