Grand Cay Harbour Anchorage
27° 13.2′ N · 78° 19.4′ W
The little harbor between the Grand Cays, right off the village and Rosie's docks. It is convenient, but it has a well-earned reputation for some of the worst holding in the Abacos.
Practical
ActiveCaptain position. Thick eel grass over a thin layer of sand; anchors often won't dig in, and a current runs through from the ocean side. Most of the harbor is 6 ft or less, with private moorings and several wrecks on the rocks (2012-2016 reports). The channel in from the Sea of Abaco carries at least 8 ft (2016 report); follow the chart. Usable only in settled weather with a well-set anchor (dive on it); otherwise take a slip at Rosie's or anchor outside at Little Grand Cay, Southwest Grand Cay, Wells Bay or Double Breasted. Land the dinghy at Rosie's. ActiveCaptain community notes here date from roughly 2010-2019, before Hurricane Dorian (September 2019); conditions may have changed.
Best for
