Freeport Harbour (commercial port)

26° 31.4′ N · 78° 46.3′ W

Grand Bahama's deepwater commercial harbour: container ships, cruise ships, the Fort Lauderdale fast ferry, the oil terminal and the Grand Bahama Shipyard dry docks. It is not a yacht harbour, but you will see its breakwater lights and range on every passage along the south coast.

Practical

Position is the harbour (OpenStreetMap seamark). Lights: West Breakwater Fl G 4s (26 31 06.6 N / 78 46 40.8 W); Pinder Point range front and rear, both F G, lead in (Wikipedia list of lighthouses). The Bahamas Cruisers Guide says there is no anchorage for pleasure boats in the harbour and that tying up at the commercial dock for up to 4 hours is possible but discouraged; Harbour Control works VHF 16. Noonsite advises visiting yachts to clear at Lucaya instead. The adjacent Freeport Container Port (Hutchison) has 52-ft draft berths (Wikipedia). Pier One restaurant sits at the harbour.
